Baltimore's front office was busy this offseason, acquiring Andrew Luck and Odell Beckham Jr. via trades. The front office was not able to strike a deal with former QB Kirk Cousins, so the team quickly made a move to fill that void. Offensively, the team on paper is a juggernaut. The combination of Landry/OBJ is deadly. But, being able to spread the ball around and keep both happy will be a big challenge this season. Luck has struggled the past four seasons with Indianapolis, so a fresh start might just be what he needs. He is also in his contract year, so the organization will have a lot to look at this season.
Right out of the gate, Baltimore faced four tough opponents who all have a shot at making a playoff run. There were a lot of ups and downs but right now, the team is figuring their identity out. Being a balance team will help them in the long run.
Baltimore re-signs TE C.J. Boyett to a 5 year deal, worth $52M
With the organization facing some huge decisions with multiple players heading into their final year of their contract. Baltimore wanted to move quickly on re-siging Boyett. The former 1st round pick (7th overall) has been outstanding the past 3 seasons, racking up 143 catches for 2,148 yards and 12 touchdowns. This move will have Boyett finishing his career with the Ravens franchise.
Front office makes multiple moves to free cap and make room for younger players
Baltimore part ways with impending free agent RT Walter Crawford. Crawford was a solid backup tackle but the team doesn't feel he will be apart of the organization in the future. Newsome went and sign RT Craig Darby from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers practice squad. "He is a young player with a lot of potential. We wanted to get younger and Craig will have the opportunity to compete for a starting position in the future." Baltimore also made a surprise release of veteran defensive end Matthew Judon. Judon who was re-signed to a long term deal a couple season ago has been a big let down. Losing his starting position and quickly falling down the depth chart. The move freed up about $3M. The team also signed RB Lenex Perry from the Oakland Raiders practice squad. RB Markis Hall went down in week 1 with an injury but is expected to return in Week 5. Jaron Fabuluje who has looked great filling in went down in week 4 with an injury that will sideline him for 4-6 weeks. Perry has a ton of speed and may rotate in with Hall over the next couple of weeks.
Baltimore looking to bring back Justin Tucker?
This should be a no brainer for Baltimore. Tucker has been one of the leagues best kickers since his arrival. According to sources, an offer has been given, the two sides are currently working on the details. More to come.
